The Lanark-based company provided clothing for the winning teams in the Walker Cup, Vivendi Seve Trophy and Jacques Leglise Trophy as Great Britain & Ireland’s talented professional and amateur golfers embarked on a globe-trotting trophy-hunting mission.

Only the PGA Cup side, who faced the daunting prospect of taking on the USA on home soil, prevented Glenmuir/Sunderland from making it a clean sweep  – going down 181/2 to 71/2.

Glenmuir managing director, Colin Mee, said: “Working to kit out four top-flight teams in such a short period of time was daunting, but we were delighted to play a part in all their efforts.

“It was a tremendous few weeks for us, and for British golf, but in my opinion the Walker Cup was exceptional. For GB&I to win against such a strong USA team was superb and the sportsmanship shown by both teams was truly inspiring.”

Glenmuir’s outstanding shirts and knitwear were first worn in Neguri, northern Spain, as Great Britain & Ireland’s leading amateur boys won Jacques Leglise Trophy from Continental Europe.

Glenmuir then featured prominently as the Walker Cup was won by GB&I on the Balgownie Links of Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, followed a week later as both the
victorious GB&I and losing Continental Europe teams wore Glenmuir and Sunderland in the prestigious Vivendi Seve Trophy.

Having gone ‘three for three’, the GB&I side captained by Russell Weir and wearing Glenmuir and Sunderland, attempted to become the first side to win the PGA Cup on foreign soil since the contest was first staged Pinehurst No.2 in North Carolina in 1973.

Added Colin: “Russell has been a delight to deal with and it was shame the side lost, but they faced an incredibly difficult task.

“Win or lose it’s been a fantastic Summer of golf for us and we are very proud to have featured and supported such important and high-profile events.”
