Thinking of booking a tee time this autumn? Worried that the weather might dampen your spirits? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered, quite literally...

A midlayer that won’t affect your swing
When the seasons change and temperatures drop it’s time to add a long sleeve layer to your golfing wardrobe. You’ll need something that’s warm without being chunky, so you can play without restrictions. An item that won’t affect your swing but also looks at home on the 19th hole. The Jedburgh Sweater does exactly that, with a touch of luxurious cashmere complete with an anti-pill finish for repeated wear.

If you’re looking for a midlayer that packs in more high-performance features, keep an eye out for 4-way stretch polyester. You’ll find the free-moving fabric on our Bree Thermal Midlayer for ladies and our Ryder Cup Thermal Panelled Fleece. Both items are wind-resistant and water repelling to ensure you stay comfortable on an ‘unsettled’ day on the course.

A waterproof outer layer to brave the rain
A waterproof jacket is a must for autumn golfers and it’s important to find one that does much more than keep you dry. Bonded seams, storm flaps and high necks will keep the rain at bay, but the best water repellent layers are also lightweight, so as not to slow you down between holes, and breathable, so you stay cool at all times.

High quality jackets might use a mesh lining to help regulate your temperature and feature fleece-lined pockets to keep your hands warm when they’re not holding a club. The perfect golf jacket will also need to give you the freedom to play your way. Look out for stretchy fabrics around the arms and shoulders so you can swing in comfort. You can expect all of these features on our Ladies Killy Waterproof Golf Jacket and Men’s Valberg Waterproof Golf Jacket.

A warm jacket
A round of golf in autumn can make for a chilly experience, so you’ll want to pack a jacket that stops the cold setting in. That doesn’t have to mean heavy layers and chunky jumpers, but items like the Ladies Samara Padded Golf Jacket and Men’s Callander Padded Golf Jacket. Both of the outer layers use bonded quilting to keep you well wrapped up without adding unnecessary bulk. The hybrid jackets feature stretch fleece sleeves and side panels too, to ensure your game isn’t affected by your garments.

If you prefer to keep the layers away from your limbs, you could always try a gilet. A padded option will keep you warm while you’re standing at the tee or waiting for others to take their shots, and one with zip pockets will keep your scorecards and ball markers handy. The Bute Men’s Gilet and Ayla Women’s Gilet offer both. And if you’re still worried that the extra layer will affect your game, you’ll be happy to hear that our gilets use stretch binding to free your arms and shoulders while you swing.

Weatherproof trousers

Don’t forget to pick up some trousers that will protect your lower half against the elements too. There are some great options available that are designed to repel water and keep your legs warm at the same time. Our Ashurst Men’s Water Repellent Golf Trousers and Jade Women’s Thermal Performance Golf Trousers feature a fleece inner to ensure the colder months don’t cause you to freeze on the fairways.

Autumn-ready accessories
If you’ve bought midlayers, jackets and trousers, why not complete your golfing wardrobe with some weatherproof accessories? Our Osiris Thermal Golf Socks and Ariana Thermal Golf Socks use Heat Holder technology to keep your feet warm during colder days on the course, and despite their thickness, the breathable materials ensure you stay dry too.

All-weather golfers should invest in the right headwear to protect their ears and face from the elements. A knitted hat is a must-have to help brave low temperatures and the best options on the market are also wind resistant, just like our Archie Bobble Hat and Neck Warmer. The striped hat has a heat-efficient Thinsulate lining and is also breathable – the ideal material for the matching neck warmer that can be pulled over the mouth and nose for extra protection.

Alternatively, the Robyn Thermal Cable Golf Headband is designed to keep your ears warm no matter what the time of year and uses a twisted cable design for a stylish finish. The fashionable piece not only defends you from the elements but also helps to keep your hair in place during a windswept round of golf.
