Unforgettable golf scenes in films and tv

Sit back, relax and switch on some of the best golfing moments caught on camera.

08 April 2021 Words by Matthew 1 minute read Unforgettable golf scenes in films and tv
From Bill Murray’s pleas at the tee to Larry David’s avian aversion, on-screen golf courses have seen it all – and now you can too.

Jackass: The Movie – The airhorn scene
Now, we’re not condoning disrupting others on the golf course but it’s difficult not to break into a smile watching this scene from 2002. Johnny Knoxville and company camp in the rough wearing camouflage clothing and armed with an airhorn in the hope of putting unsuspecting golfers off of their shot. Clubs go flying and balls are aimed at the pranksters as the golfers lose their patience, and who would blame them?

Curb Your Enthusiasm – Swatting a swan
Eagles, albatrosses and birdies usually make our time on the course more enjoyable but black swans are something of an omen for Larry David. The constantly uptight comedian decides to take a swing at a territorial bird on the course, which just so happens to be the club owner’s prized pet. Burying the evidence only seems to make the situation worse.

Goldfinger – The game with Goldfinger
Stoke Park was the setting for Bond’s infamous round with Auric Goldfinger and his caddy Oddjob. In the scene, Sean Connery gives his nemesis a lesson in sportsmanship as he beats the baddie at his own game of ball switching. Filming was plagued by five days of rain at the Buckinghamshire course in 1964, which goes to show, not even Bond can avoid the pitfalls of Great British weather on the golf course.

The Sopranos – A persuasive present
Who wouldn’t want to be surprised on a course with a brand new, gift-wrapped driver? Perhaps Dr. Kennedy, the man assigned to look after the mobster Corrado John "Junior" Soprano. When his doting nephew pays the surgeon an unscheduled visit, Tony Soprano makes it very clear that the club comes at a price and it’s not just the doctor’s dictaphone, which unfortunately ends up in the water hazard.

Space Jam – An animated game
Even history’s most famous basketball film makes time for golf. The scene features Bill Murray wearing an umbrella hat and talking to his ball at the tee: “Are you my friend or are you my enemy?” We’ve all been there Bill…sort of. Things take a turn for the even more absurd when Michael Jordan’s drive lands a hole in one with the help of Bugs Bunny and a magnet. If that wasn’t looney (tunes) enough, the 6’6 athlete somehow disappears down the hole just seconds later.
