The Australian sports star, who won his first major title at last year's Masters, will top the table when it is released on Monday, regardless of the result of the Bryon Nelson Championship, making him the second sportsman from down under to hold the honour.

Tiger Woods' injury issues have given Scott the chance to storm to the top of the rankings. It is not yet known if Woods will return to the green for next month's US Open.

If Matt Kuchar wins the Bryon Nelson, he too will rise higher than Woods in the rankings, however, he will not overtake Scott.

Scott is not the first golfer who has managed to claim the number one spot without pulling on his golf clothing. Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Lee Westwood and Bernhard Langer have all done so in the past.
