The Australian says he spent the evening in a wine bar after failing to make the cut and was later found unconscious in a park six miles away.
He has sustained injuries to his face and says his wallet, cash, credit cards and mobile phone were missing. But Allenby says he has no recollection of what happened on January 16.
In a statement released by the PGA Tour the 43-year-old says he has opted to withdraw from the Humana Challenge, which gets under way on January 22, after taking the advice of his doctor. He says the break will enable him to make a full recovery before rejoining the PGA Tour.
Allenby, pictured here in a golf shirt , says he is grateful for the messages of support he has received from well-wishers as well as the help he has been given by the PGA Tour and the local authorities in Hawaii.
