Planning a beach break here in the UK? Chuck the clubs in the boot and head to one of these resorts…

The UK has a host of great golf courses… and some of them are located in our favourite seaside resorts. So why not mix the two together with a trip to one of these golf-friendly beach towns?

St Andrews, Fife
Not your normal holiday destination, but when you’re talking about seaside resorts with a golfing heritage you simply can’t ignore St Andrews, the spiritual home of the game. The town’s West Sands beach is located right next door to the legendary St Andrews links course, meaning you won’t have to venture far to soak up some sun or build sandcastles with the little ones.

Southport, Merseyside
Located on the UK’s ‘Golf Coast’, Southport is a must-visit for any enthusiast. With three Open Championship venues in the vicinity (Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s) plus a whole host of other courses, it’s a golfer’s paradise. Southport itself is a classically smart English resort, with a wide sweep of pristine sand and all the trappings of a traditional seaside town.

Perranporth, Cornwall
Nestled in rolling Cornish hills, the quaint seaside resort of Perranporth doesn’t get the crowds of nearby Newquay, which makes it all the better for getting away from it all. The nearby golf courses aren’t bad, either, with the town’s Perranporth Golf Club a challenging links course that offers breath-taking views across the picture-perfect beach and out over the Atlantic.

Torbay, Devon
At the heart of the beautiful English Riviera, Torbay is actually a cluster of smaller towns and villages that form one of the country’s best resorts. Boasting waterparks, beach hut-lined beaches and even an impressive zoo, Torbay has a lot to offer and the golfing options aren’t bad either – with courses, driving ranges and even one of the country’s best adventure golf courses all close by.

Porthmadog, Gwynedd
The sleepy fishing village of Porthmadog has been one of North Wales’ most popular resorts for decades, with its cosy town centre and the nearby Black Rock Sands beach, ideal for families and water sport fans. Between the town and the beach is the Porthmadog golf course, which offers golfers a windswept course with views out across Cardigan Bay, the beach and nearby estuary.
