Strong winds, dense fog and heavy rain at the Santo de Serra caused severe problems for the players last week, with the play eventually being halted after just one round.
The poor weather made play impossible but bosses at the European Tour were keen to reschedule the event to keep the golf club and the tournament sponsors happy.
Keith Waters, chief operating officer of the European Tour praised all the organisers of the Madeira Islands Open for working so hard to find a mutually convenient date for the tournament.
The first and only round at the Santo de Serra saw JB Hansen of Denmark take the lead on four under par, with eight players, including England's Andrew Marshall and Scotland's Peter Whiteford, a shot behind.
The entire field was tightly packed and was separated by just six shots.
