Half way through the first round Fisher stands tied at the top with the host nation's own George Coetzee after both men managed four birdies for an astounding opening nine.
Though Coetzee has the home advantage, Fisher has form on the course at the Gary Player Country Club, having claimed his fifth European Tour win at the Tshwane Open there in March.
That form definitely showed as Fisher, pictured here teeing off in a red, white and grey golf shirt , claimed birdies on the second, sixth, seventh and ninth holes in a brilliant display at the South African club.
It wasn't enough to shake of Coetzee, though, who was every bit the hometown hero, recording three birdies on his opening three holes and one on the ninth.
Behind the two leaders sits Englishman Danny Willett and with Charl Schwartzel.
The top 10 is rounded off in a six-way tie for fifth place between Welshman Jamie Donaldson along with Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand, American Brooks Koepka, Marcel Siem of Germany and Frenchman Alexander Levy on two under.
