The British star, who partnered his father John at the pro-am celebrity event at the course this week, told the Golf Channel that playing at Pebble Beach is something to "tick off the bucket list".

"To actually play in a competition in the AT&T with your dad and tick that one off is something really special. It's just a magical place to play golf. I've always said it's my favourite place," he added.

Westwood said that it was his dad's first time round the course and he had been wowed by the scenery.

It was Westwood's father who introduced him to golf, encouraging him to take up the sport in his early teens and learning alongside his son.

However, as the winner of 22 European titles, it is probably fair to say the younger Westwood took to their new hobby a bit better.
