His move to Florida has allowed Westwood to spend more time on the golf course during the off season and he is hoping to show off the benefits of these extra sessions this year.
"I feel like I'm coming out running," Westwood said. "Hopefully, I will be competitive. We've seen recently some of the best players struggling to find their competitive edge. I feel like I'm playing well and I have a chance."
Westwood will be pulling on his golf clothing for the first time this season in Dubai at the Desert Classic this week and is one of the favourites to lift the trophy.
Other golfers signed up for the event, which starts in earnest on Thursday following the Pro Am Tournament on Wednesday, include Sergio Garcia and Thomas Bjorn.
