The Northern Irishman was named one of the first automatic European qualifiers for the event alongside Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Gonzalo Fernandez Castaño by the European captain Miguel Angel Jiménez.

The four qualifiers earned their spot in the 10-man team thanks to their final positions on the 2013 Race to Dubai. The four remaining qualifiers will be selected based on the Official World Golf Rankings on February 3, while Jiménez, who will pull on the team golf clothing as a playing Captain, will be allowed to select an additional captain's pick.

Asian team captain, Thongchai Jaidee, will have two captain's picks to choose from to play alongside himself and the seven automatic qualifiers, three of which will come from the Official World Rankings and four will be based on the final 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit.

"It's a great concept to bring Asia and Europe together and I think it has a lot of potential to become a very big event," McDowell said.

"Everyone knows the standards in Asian golf are continually rising and I have no doubt it will be a tough job to go away from home and win."

"But if we gel as a team and get the pairings right then we will have a chance because there will be a lot of quality and experienced players in the European Team and I am sure a few of them will be looking to sharpen their match play skills with an eye on the Ryder Cup next year."

The EurAsia Cup will take place at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur from March 27 to 29.
