A victory in next year's US Masters at Augusta would not only give McIlroy the famous Green Jacket - awarded to first-time champions - to add to his wardrobe of golf clothing but would make him just the sixth player ever to win all four majors.

And his bid to achieve the career grand slam is being backed by Augusta member Jeff Knox.

Knox, who played as a non-competing marker for McIlroy at this year's Masters, believes he can help save the Northern Ireland golfer a few shots on the challenging course and says he is happy to assist in any way he can.

McIlroy says he is considering playing some practice rounds with Knox, who he describes as the best putter he's ever seen on the greens at Augusta.

Since Gene Sarazen achieved it in 1935 only four other golfers have ever completed a career grand slam - Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and, most recently, Tiger Woods.
