This is a view shared by bookmakers after the 25-year-old Northern Irishman added this month's British Open on the Royal Liverpool course to his recent BMW PGA title.

They make McIlroy the favourite to take the crown - a far cry from the previous year when they quoted him as a 28/1 outsider.

McIlroy's golf clothing ensures that he looks the part as well as plays it with his stylish trademark polo shirts .

Next Thursday (August 7) sees his four-day bid to achieve the final piece in his quest for a career-long Grand Slam.

He warned rival claimants on the Louisville course that his ambition has not been diminished by his British Open conquest.

There's a lot more left to achieve, he says, although he has ruled out emulating Jack Nicklaus' all-time major title haul of 18.

Reclaiming his world No. 1 spot remains firmly among his ambitions, however.

The US PGA event will be unique as it is reportedly the first time that all 100 of the world's leading-ranked players, barring late withdrawals, will be on show in the same tournament.
