Rory McIlroy can't have been wearing his lucky golf clothing at the Hong Kong Open as he failed to make the cut after four putting his final green in the second round on Friday.

Being out of the tournament comes as a blow to McIlroy who has had a very successful year which saw him appearing on both the European and US tour money lists.

"Obviously not the week that I wanted. I was only four off the lead and thinking I could make a couple more and be right back in contention. Unfortunately it just went the other way," Rory told reporters.

"I still love this course. It's just a pity that this year had to end like that. I didn't putt well in Singapore last week and sort of got away with it [he came third]."

He added that he needs to put in some putting practice ahead of the last event of the year in Dubai.

We suggest he digs out the lucky golf trousers which saw him win the BMW Championship and make sure he wears them at the next tournament!
