The US golf star said that the win is an important part of building momentum for the opening Major in Augusta in April.
"It's important to start building momentum," Mickelson told Golf Channel.
"But it's more important what you do closer to Augusta, that you start feeling confident in your game then, that you start getting good touch on quick greens."
Mickelson won the Phoenix Open by four shots, closing with a four-under-par 67 after leading from start to finish.
The sportsman, who has now won at least once in 20 different seasons in the US, said he thinks his game is on the "up-swing".
He will next be pulling on his golf clothing next week in California to defend his Pebble Beach National Pro-Am title.
