The footballer-turned-Sky Sports pundit, regularly seen on the green wearing stylish golf trousers , made the admission during the first of a new series of celebrity interviews surrounding the game.
The former England, Liverpool and Spurs star, said he rediscovered his passion for the sport after injury forced his premature retirement from football at 31.
Redknapp, who plays off a four handicap, told Sky Sports' Why I Love Golf online series that he has always loved watching or playing golf.
But he admitted it is only since hanging up his boots that he has become "obsessed" with it.
Redknapp, 41, said golf was a fantastic game to fill football's void. The Queenwood member said that golf today comes an extremely close second behind football as his favourite sport.
He said he plays at least twice a week and it prevents him getting under his wife Louise's feet.
A Redknapp golfing day usually entails arriving early at the club, discussing the previous night's football over breakfast then getting on the course.
Redknapp is close friends with former world No. 1 Luke Donald.
