The Englishman has set his sights on becoming the first man in a quarter of a century to win the prestigious tournament two years in a row when he throws on his golf clothing this summer.

He won his first major title in brilliant fashion at Merion 12 months ago, ending England's 43-year wait for a US Open winner in the process, and he intends to repeat that success this time round at Pinehurst.

American Curtis Strange was the last player to win back-to-back US Opens, achieving the feat in 1988 and 1989, while before him it was the legendary Ben Hogan, who did so in 1950 and 1951, with the first of those coming at Merion.

Rose admits the rota of US Open venues will make it harder him to defend his title, but he is confident that his game will suit the course at Pinehurst.

The 33-year-old is in good form going into the tournament, recently finishing eighth, fifth and fourth in successive events on the PGA Tour before taking 25th in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
