Would-be buyers must register and submit a photo to the website before formal applications open on June 10. Ryder Cup Europe has said that the photograph will be used on course passes and is designed to prevent fraud or ticket transfers.

Around 12,000 tickets will be made available for the three match days on September 26-28, with an additional 20,000 tickets released for the practice days from September 23-25.

Tickets for the six-day event, which will see some of the sport's biggest stars pulling on their golf clothing at the Gleneagles Resort, range from £10 to £145.

Successful applicants will be notified in August of their success, with the ballot closing on July 22.

"The 2014 Ryder Cup promises to be a truly great sporting occasion set in one of the world's most spectacular and iconic golfing locations. Understandably, tickets are highly sought-after but the ballot process for match-day tickets means that everyone has the same chance of success," Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup director, said.
