There is now 12 months to go until the prestigious event tees off and Sports Minister Shona Robison is anticipating a big boost for the economy.

She believes the spectacle will provide a wide range of benefits for the country, from volunteering opportunities to introducing more young people to golf.

The continuing ClubGolf junior golf initiative and the Volunteering Support Scheme will give a host of youngsters a chance to sample the action.

Match day tickets, which cost up to £145, are already heavily oversubscribed, with demand up by 38% from the 2010 competition held at Celtic Manor in Wales.

Spectators will be able to catch a glimpse of some of the very best golfers in the world during the week, each wearing the famous Ryder Cup shirts as they battle it out for the much coveted trophy.

"The 2014 Ryder Cup is expected to see 45,000 spectators each day," said Ms Robison. "One in three tickets sold were purchased by people from Scotland, but we'll have visitors from 75 countries - more than ever before."
