But three-year-old Tommy Morrissey has made a good start - he can hit a ball 100 yards... with one hand.
Tommy is golf-mad and being born with an undeveloped arm has not held him back from playing the game he loves. His parents bought him his first clubs when he was just 18 months old, when they saw him emulating players on the Golf Channel.
Tommy's dad Joe Morrissey, 44, says his son would rather watch golf on the TV than cartoons like other boys and girls his age.
He said we he saw Tommy copying the swings of some of the best players in the world he had to buy him his own clubs and Tommy kept them on his bed when he went to sleep.
Now Tommy is old enough Joe and his 37-year-old wife Marcia-Lee put on their golf trousers and take him with them when they play at the Frenchman's Reserve Country Club course near their home in Palm Springs, Florida.
Joe says his son can hit a ball 100 yards when he focuses on what he is doing, but sometimes he leaves his Matchbox cars in holes and they have to go back to get them.
