Tom Watson won't be pulling on golf clothing for the Olympics.
US sportsman Tom Watson is unlikely to be pulling on his golf clothing for Rio 2016 as he has suggested that the sport has no place in the Olympics.
Speaking to reporters in Sydney, he said that by including golf in the Olympics it dilutes the importance of the Majors.
"I still think of Olympics as track and field and not golf, to be honest with you," he told Eurosport.
"We have our most important championships (the four Major championships). You have golf in the Olympics. You have diluted the importance, in a sense, of the four Major championships."
He added that there are already a lot of tournaments for golfers to choose from, including the four Majors, the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup and the World Golf Championships.
"All of a sudden you have 20 tournaments that the top players have to play every year," Watson continued.
Golf was last played at the Olympics in 1904 and will make its return in Rio in four years.
