The announcement comes after the country hosted a successful Turkish Airlines Open last week.
"We are candidates for the Race to Turkey in 2016 and what comes after that? The Ryder Cup," Ahmet Agaoglu, the president of the Turkish Golf Federation, told several national newspapers.
"We have the idea to host the Ryder Cup in 2022. We will bid for that. Either in Istanbul or Antalya."
The European Tour is expected to open up the bidding process for the 2022 Ryder Cup after next year's event at Gleneagles.
"Turkey would have as good a chance as anywhere," George O'Grady, the chief executive of the European Tour, said.
"We have been staggered by the success of this tournament. This is a country where anything is possible."
The process may require Turkey to build a course suitable to hosting the Ryder Cup west of the Bosphorus straits, after last week's event took place in the Antalya region, which is in the Asian part of the country rather than Europe.
"Turkey is in Europe," Agaoglu said. "But if we need to, we can build a course on the European side of Istanbul."
Valderrama in Spain became the first golf course outside of the British Isles to host the event in 1997 and both the American and European teams will pull on their team golf clothing in Continental Europe once more for the 2018 event in Paris.
