Emma Talley, the reigning US amateur champion, scored the trophy-clinching point with a 4&3 win over Bronte Law at St Louis Country Club on Sunday.

The 20-year-old, described the victory as a "dream come true" and praised the togetherness of her team mates during the tournament - all of whom were kitted out in red, blue and white golf clothing to match the colours of the US flag.

Ally McDonald and Annie Park also recorded dominant wins in their matches against Annabel Dimmock and Gabriella Cowley respectively to help clinch a 13-7 triumph in the biennial battle between the leading amateur players.

Great Britain & Ireland had trailed 9.5-2.5 going into the final day, so knew they needed a monumental comeback if they were to keep hold of the cup which they won two years ago in Scotland.

Georgia Hall, Gemma Dryburgh, Charlotte Thomas and Stephanie Meadow all earned singles wins to offer a glimmer of hope but it proved to be too little, too late as the US comfortably shot their way victory.
