Only three US Masters debutants have won it - Horton Smith and Gene Sarazen took the first two titles in 1934 and 1935, with Fuzzy Zoeller the last to do so in 1979 - but this year's total of 24 rookies is the highest since 1935.
And there are some quality players pulling on their golf clothing at the US Masters for the first time in 2014 who might just trouble the bigger names at Augusta.
There is Jordan Spieth, already world number 13 and the 2014 PGA Tour rookie of the year, as well as Victor Dubuisson (21st), Patrick Reed (23rd), Jimmy Walker (24th), Harris English (36th) and Scotland's Stephen Gallacher (38th).
Reed heads to the illustrious tournament for the first time fresh from causing a stir with victory in the WGC-Cadillac Championship and his suggestion he is among the top five players in the world.
He recently told a pre-tournament press conference that "whoever is playing the best" will take the trophy, whether they have played there once or 50 times.
