The Welsh links will host the event for the seventh time, with Alejandro Larrazabal winning the title the last time the event visited Wales in 2002.

Competitors will also pull on their golf clothing at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club for the preliminary stroke play rounds.

"Royal Porthcawl and Pyle & Kenfig will be wonderful venues for the Amateur Championship and we expect the Welsh galleries will relish the opportunity to see leading players in action," Peter Dawson, chief executive of the R&A, said.

Royal Porthcawl will host next year's Seniors Open Championship and R&A officials are expected to visit the course next month to determine whether it is suitable to host an Open Championship in the future.

Wales has never hosted a professional major championship before at either men's, seniors' or ladies' level and next year's Seniors Open should be seen as a litmus test to whether its links courses are up to the challenge.
