The Englishman, pictured wearing a blue-coloured golf shirt , shot a five-under 67 to see off the challenges of joint-second Marcus Fraser and Ryder Cup colleague Martin Kaymer.

This is the second time Westwood has lifted the crown, having romped home by seven shots in the competition's inaugural event in 2011.

Things were much tighter this time, however, for the 41-year-old golfer, and even a tournament eight-under card gave him victory by only the narrowest of margins.

The highly acclaimed player made up the two-shot deficit on overnight leader Fraser in Bangkok.

Westwood suggested that he would finish the season on a high by making this his last tournament of 2014.

He tweeted that the round was a "good last day of school".

Tommy Fleetwood, of Southport, continued England's fine showing in the championship by finishing fourth, two strokes behind Fraser and Kaymer.

Reigning champion Sergio Garcia could only finish ninth, while American Bubba Watson and Northern Irishman Darren Clarke performed more badly still. Watson finished equal 25th and Clarke slumped to joint 50th.
