Whiteford, who led after carding a six-under-par 66 at Lake Karrinyup on the opening day, repeated the score to stay one shot ahead of Dane Thorbjorn Olesen.
This was despite the 34-year-old bagging only one birdie in the first nine holes after starting his day at the 10th in the second round.
Whiteford, pictured in a blue golfing shirt and white trousers, gained momentum after picking up three shots in four holes after the turn.
The scoring was complete when he fired an eagle at the par-five seventh and Whiteford said he had to keep on attacking the course to maintain his position.
Whiteford is fighting to retain his European Tour card for next season and only a top-two tournament finish will suffice. He admitted that it's "no holds barred - win or bust".
