Glenmuir recently assisted with the sponsorship of the clothing for the Scottish Blind Golf Society in their defence of the Auld Enemies Cup against the English Blind Golf Association.

Played in a Ryder Cup format, the victorious Scotland team retained the trophy with a slender 10-8 victory at Hamilton Golf Club in the 22nd playing of a blind golf international between the two countries.

As part of the clothing deal, Lanark-based Glenmuir - one of Europe's leading golf apparel companies - provided caps for the Scotland players and their sighted guides.

Colin Mee, Glenmuir managing director, said: "We were delighted to assist the Scotland team in their victorious defence of the Auld Enemies Cup and to play a part in a fantastic event played by some truly remarkable people."

Rain washed out the first day foursomes and the following day the four-ball better ball honours were shared 3-3.

So Scotland went into the final day singles needing six points to retain the trophy and managed a 7-5 success in a very closely-fought encounter.

Undefeated Gerry Kelly, Ally Reid and Myles Clark topped the scoring charts for Scotland with 1.5 pts each, matched by England's Bryan Richards and Chris Evans.

Blind golf is played by the guide/caddy playing a vital role by giving the player as much information as required - describing the terrain, giving the direction and distance as accurately as possible and then lining up the player for the desired shot.

On the green then guide/caddy and player work closely together in assessing the distance and borrow from the ball to the pin, which will involve pacing from the ball to the pin and determining the strength and line of shot.

It is very important to have a good player/guide relationship, each performing a vital role and each suffering disappointment over poor shots and great pleasure over good shots.

The blind golfer is governed by the R and A rules as all other golfers, except that they are allowed to ground the club in a hazard.

Glenmuir is a brand right at the heart of golf. Preferred supplier to the European Ryder Cup team for 23 years, it also enjoys partnerships with the PGAs of Europe, The PGA, The European Tour, The Open Championship, and The English Golf Union. Glenmuir is official clothing supplier to the Golf Foundation, Ryder Cup Wales 2010, The SLGA, and The Golf Union of Wales.
