Perfect meals for the night before a big golf round

Preparation is the key to success… and that starts in your kitchen the night before your next big round of golf.

Get prepped for your next big round with one of these excellent night-before recipes…

Burger and fries
Yes, even a burger and fries can be healthy enough for that all-important pre-game meal! But this isn’t your average burger and fries. Swap out a beef burger for lean, grilled chicken and mix up your fries game by chipping a few sweet potatoes and oven baking them with plenty of herbs and seasoning. Serve with a colourful side salad for an extra handful of goodness.

Sweet jacket potato
It might sound like the ultimate in student cuisine, but a jacket potato can be a great carb-fuelled meal to tuck into the night before a big tournament. To change things up a little, opt for a sweet potato and fill it with your favourite toppings – whether that’s the classic tuna and sweetcorn mayonnaise, or something more exotic like chicken, roasted grapes, feta and spinach

Salmon spaghetti
Grilled fish is a great source of protein – and makes an excellent base for any pre-game meal. Salmon’s a great option, with high levels of vitamins, minerals and healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Grill up a salmon steak seasoned with herbs and spices and mix into spaghetti with courgette and sweetcorn for a light but filling meal that’ll tee you up perfectly for the first hole.

Mediterranean chicken pasta
Ask any professional athlete their standard pre-game routine and chances are they’ll come back with a recipe that centres on chicken and pasta. But if you feel like making things a little fancier, why not try to infuse some Mediterranean flavours into the dish? Roasted vegetables (courgette, peppers, aubergines, etc) mixed with grilled chicken, mozzarella and a drizzle of pesto is our favourite.

Mackerel tacos
Fancy adding a little Mexican spice to your pre-game rituals? Why not try putting together some mackerel tacos? Smoked mackerel – readily available in most supermarkets – is not only delicious but also a great source of goodness. Shred up some mackerel and mix with cherry tomatoes, coriander and Mexican seasoning, spoon into soft tacos and top with guacamole, sour cream and a sprinkling of grated cheese.
