Fashion trends for golfers in 2016

Golfing fashion has a life of its own - from John Daly’s increasingly garish choice of trousers to the traditional plus fours. And while some fashion trends pass the golfing world by completely, sometimes the catwalk and the high street can influence the fairways and clubhouses.

Here are a few key fashion trends for 2016 that may well be coming to a course near you…

Bright colours

Golfers have always loved a brightly-coloured outfit, so they’ll be happy to see that their distinctive garb will be on-trend for 2016. Style-wise, the fashion will be pushing towards anything 50s inspired, from Hawaiian prints to bowling shirts.

How to wear it on the course

We suggest opting for some primary-coloured polo shirts, even going as far as to get one with a subtle print.
   

Geometric prints

Speaking of prints, geometrics are in. John Daly will be having a field day with these designs. Think 70s wallpaper and you’re halfway there.

How to wear it on the course

For a more toned down version, choose a jumper with a basic geometric print in two or three muted colours. Or you could go all out and buy a pair of yellow and red coloured diamond print trousers.

Monochrome

For those who like to keep it smart and simple and have a more classic sense of style, this is the trend you should be embracing next year. Black and white is a holdover from the winter 2015/16 range but one that will stick around all year. It’s versatile, understated and flattering when done right.

How to wear it on the course

While the catwalks went for eye-straining prints, we suggest something simpler. Black trousers, white shoes and a black and white print top should do the trick.
   

Short shorts

It’s been a trend for the past few seasons – shorts are getting shorter. While golf shorts are designed more around freedom of movement than fashion, when the sun finally arrives maybe you should be looking at something a little slimmer and shorter.

How to wear it on the course

Don’t go super short – pick a pair that offers both a stylish fit but also with room to manoeuvre.

White chinos

Another one for those summer days when the course is bone dry and there’s no risk of getting muddy cuffs. White chinos have been around on the golf course for years – in fact you’ve probably got a pair tucked away in the back of your wardrobe. Now is the time to get them out.

How to wear it on the course

They need to be bright white, not office white. Pair them with a navy top or jacket for a Cote D’Azur look.

On the green

The natural world has been an inspiration for both fashion and interior designers for the past year and this continues in 2016 as fashion houses embrace the green. Chlorophyll green – that deep colour found across the UK’s lush countryside – is the colour of choice.

How to wear it on the course

We’d not recommend going fully green as you might end up blending into the fairway. As it’s inspired by nature, choose natural materials like wool for your green tops.
